en.Wedoany.com Reported - Victor Frasinoi, Managing Director of Rail Cargo Carrier Romania, recently criticized the country's railway traffic management, pointing out that multiple international freight trains on the southern branch of the Rhine-Danube Corridor are operating at extremely low commercial speeds.
He cited an example: Train 40713023 departed from Curtici at 01:05 on June 23 and was still stranded at Leu station as of 05:11 on June 26. The train took 76 hours to cover 443 kilometers, with an average commercial speed below 6 km/h. Data from two other Curtici–Giurgiu freight trains on the same corridor were also referenced: Train 42403023 departed Curtici at 12:25 on June 23 and arrived in Giurgiu at 02:15 on June 26, taking 62 hours to cover 635 kilometers; Train 40621021 departed Curtici at 05:55 on June 21 and arrived in Giurgiu at 13:02 on June 23, completing the same distance in 55 hours.
Frasinoi stated that the delays have led to additional labor costs, higher energy consumption during prolonged stops, and commercial risks for operators serving international clients. He linked this situation to Romania's role in the TEN-T Rhine-Danube Corridor and called for action from the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the infrastructure manager CFR SA.
The Rhine-Danube Corridor is one of the main TEN-T axes connecting Central and Southeast Europe. In Romania, the southern branch provides access to the Danube River and enables cross-border freight transport via Curtici and Giurgiu.
