en.Wedoany.com Reported - As part of the celebrations marking 140 years of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz India has officially launched the Indian leg of its global "140 Years. 140 Places." initiative. A fleet of three Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedans has already traversed six continents, and the India chapter will kick off in July, highlighting the country's diverse culture, architecture, and geography.

The starting point of this global expedition traces back to the moment Carl Benz filed a patent for his automobile in 1886, an event widely recognized as the birth of the modern car. The three S-Class sedans, named Gotlieb, Carl, and Bertha, have already traveled through over 55 countries before entering India, with a cumulative global mileage exceeding 60,000 kilometers.

This journey will document stories of people, traditional crafts, innovative practices, and local aspirations across India along the way. The three cars will split into two routes, covering numerous significant cultural, industrial, and historical landmarks.

The car designated as Gotlieb will take the northern route, starting from New Delhi and passing through Amritsar, Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. This route will traverse Umling La, regarded as the world’s highest motorable pass, along with several Himalayan roads. The vehicle will then continue through Lucknow, Varanasi, and Patna, before entering the only international destination on the India leg—Bhutan—and finally returning to Delhi.

The two cars, Carl and Bertha, will take the southern route, passing through Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, and Ahmedabad, arriving at Pune, the location of the Mercedes-Benz India manufacturing plant. The route then splits, with one car heading to Mumbai and the other meeting up with the team in Bengaluru after passing through Hampi. The fleet will eventually cross Goa and conclude the India journey in Mumbai.

The S-Class sedan was chosen as the flagship model for this initiative because it has long embodied Mercedes-Benz's core pursuits in innovation, comfort, safety, and technology. The India journey aims to blend the brand's global heritage with India's local traditions, technological progress, and economic development. This project is also part of Mercedes-Benz's anniversary celebrations in multiple countries, with a global plan to visit 140 locations that reflect the company's technological achievements, brand legacy, and international market influence. The entire journey is expected to continue until October 2026. Additionally, the event highlights the company's three decades of operations in India and its ongoing commitment to manufacturing, research and development, and customer engagement, seeking to showcase the evolving relationship between mobility, culture, and innovation by traversing India's iconic destinations.
