British sports car maker Lotus opens Hethel Performance Centre
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Chris McDonald MP, UK Minister for Industry, has officially opened the Hethel Performance Centre (HPH) in Norfolk, operated by Lotus Cars. The centre integrates Lotus's long-standing expertise in engineering, manufacturing, and testing, aiming to provide a new platform for collaborative development and production with partners.

At the launch ceremony, the Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque alongside Matt Nice, Deputy General Manager of Lotus Cars, and toured a display of several vehicles, including the Lotus 100T Formula One car, the Clark Edition Emira, the Emira 420 Sport, the all-electric hypercar Evija, a Tesla Roadster, a Vauxhall VX220, and the Emira GT4 race car developed in collaboration with Cranfield University, showcasing Hethel's capabilities in specialist vehicle development and collaboration. The Minister subsequently toured the facilities and test-drove the 2,011-horsepower Lotus Evija.
As part of the regional development plan, the Hethel Performance Centre has already attracted several partners. Charge Holdings plans to relocate all its operations to Hethel; Zenos Cars has signed a letter of intent with Lotus to produce vehicles at the centre; and DR Automobiles has also confirmed its partnership, with details of a confidential project to be announced later this year. Additionally, the Hethel Engineering Centre, located near the Lotus factory, supports HPH as a local ecosystem partner, helping to strengthen collaboration among businesses, technology partners, and regional stakeholders.
The construction of the centre was supported by significant road infrastructure improvements provided by South Norfolk Council and Norfolk County Council, unlocking development land for further expansion of advanced engineering and manufacturing activities. Minister for Industry Chris McDonald stated that the centre highlights the UK's global advantages in innovation and high-value manufacturing within the automotive and motorsport sectors. Matt Nice, Deputy General Manager of Lotus Cars, expressed gratitude for the government's support and noted that HPH's growth potential is closely linked to local road infrastructure improvements. Daniel Elmer, Leader of South Norfolk Council, pointed out that Hethel has long been synonymous with engineering excellence, and this development phase will consolidate its role as a cornerstone of regional growth, creating high-skilled jobs locally.
