en.Wedoany.com Reported - Greenland Mines has signed a diamond drilling contract with Danish geotechnical contractor Nordisk Fundering for its 2026 field season at the Skaergaard project in southeast Greenland. The drilling program will support resource category upgrades and geotechnical characterization to assess future open-pit mining options.

The project will also collect additional metallurgical materials and data for the metallurgical and processing program being conducted at the GTK Mintec facility operated by the Geological Survey of Finland. Drilling activities will take place during the short Arctic summer window and are expected to include approximately 7,500 meters of helicopter-supported diamond core drilling. The field operations will use three helicopter-portable drill rigs suitable for diamond exploration drilling in rugged terrain and capable of operating on rock and selected ice-covered sites within the Skaergaard license area.

The company has contracted helicopter support for this activity and secured an icebreaker and a accommodation vessel with a helicopter deck for the 2026 field season. The drilling program is expected to mix HQ and NQ core drilling, with holes including both vertical and inclined orientations. Some drill holes will target areas related to future resource conversion, while others will focus on collecting geotechnical and metallurgical information needed for mine planning and open-pit mining assessments, and will support the planned larger-scale surface bulk sample program.

Greenland Mines President Bo Møller Stensgaard stated that signing the drilling contract with Nordisk Fundering represents another important execution milestone for the 2026 Skaergaard campaign. He noted that the company is integrating drilling, metallurgy, bulk sample preparation, logistics, and engineering-oriented field work into a coordinated plan aimed at strengthening the project's technical foundation and advancing Skaergaard toward future open-pit mining assessments and broader development studies.

The Skaergaard project is considered one of the world's largest undeveloped precious and critical metal deposits, including palladium, gold, and platinum. Greenland Mines, which holds an 80% interest in the project, has invested $30 million in the program since the 1990s.
