en.Wedoany.com Reported - Anglo Asian Mining has commissioned engineering consultancy Worley Europe to conduct a feasibility study for its Xarxar and Garadagh copper deposits in Azerbaijan. The combined copper resources of these two deposits exceed one million tonnes.
The feasibility study will evaluate copper heap leach processing and solvent extraction-electrowinning technology, which can produce marketable copper metal directly at the mine site, eliminating the need for exporting copper concentrate followed by smelting and refining.
According to the plan, Anglo Asian Mining will implement a total of 90,000 metres of core drilling from 2026 to 2027, with approximately 55,000 metres for exploration and about 35,000 metres for the feasibility study. Core drilling at Xarxar has commenced, with two rigs currently in operation; drilling at Garadagh is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
Exploration work will focus on extensions of Xarxar and Garadagh and surrounding areas, follow-up drilling in the Gedabek contract area, and expansion of the Demirli mine and the Demirli South target. Underground drilling at Gilar has also started, targeting the upper layers and deeper extensions of the deposit.
Feasibility study drilling includes geological infill drilling for updated mineral resource estimates, as well as geotechnical, hydrogeological, metallurgical, and stripping drilling at Xarxar (approximately 10,000 metres) and Garadagh (approximately 25,000 metres).
Stephen Westhead, Vice President of Anglo Asian Mining, stated: "These studies, together with the associated drilling programme, will enable us to build the mine. There remains significant potential for mineral discoveries within our licence areas. We are continuing our exploration programme, which has been very successful in the past. Our future roadmap for transitioning into a mid-tier, multi-asset copper and gold producer is clear, and these initiatives will ensure the company's continued growth."
