en.Wedoany.com Reported - Fujifilm India recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), under the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of Gujarat, to assess the feasibility of establishing a semiconductor materials manufacturing plant in the state. The agreement was signed at the "Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference" held in Vadodara, marking the company's latest move to support India's domestic semiconductor industry development.

Under the cooperation framework, Fujifilm India will conduct a study in Dholera—one of India's emerging semiconductor manufacturing hubs—to explore the possibility of building a semiconductor materials production base there. The company also plans to collaborate with government agencies, industry associations, and private sector partners to strengthen the autonomy of India's semiconductor supply chain and reduce reliance on imports of critical materials.

This initiative aligns closely with India's overall strategy to become a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. As demand for chips continues to rise in sectors such as consumer electronics, automotive, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence, advancing localized production of semiconductor materials is expected to enhance supply chain resilience and support the country's long-term technological strategy.

Fujifilm India stated that the proposed investment aligns with the company's strategy to expand its advanced materials business in India while actively responding to the "Make in India" initiative. Leveraging its global expertise in semiconductor chemicals and materials, the company will assess opportunities to participate in the domestic chip manufacturing value chain.

Currently, Fujifilm operates over 20 semiconductor materials production bases worldwide and views India as a key market for future growth. Through this planned collaboration, the company aims to bring its global technology and manufacturing capabilities into India's semiconductor ecosystem, helping to build a sustainable chip production supply chain.

The MoU also highlights Gujarat's rising status in India's semiconductor landscape, with Dholera emerging as a focal point for semiconductor investment. If the project materializes, it will further consolidate the state's role as a key manufacturing hub, supporting India in establishing a competitive semiconductor value chain.
