Finnish Merus Power Secures Over €8 Million Battery Energy Storage Order from Exilion, Delivery in Autumn 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Merus Power has signed an order worth over €8 million with Exilion to deliver a 20 MW/41 MWh battery energy storage solution for the Varevaara wind farm in Tervola. The order covers the complete delivery of the energy storage solution, a hybrid controller, and maintenance and lifecycle services, with Merus Power responsible for the turnkey delivery of the project. This is the third energy storage solution Merus Power is delivering to Exilion, scheduled to be handed over to the customer in autumn 2027.

In hybrid projects, the energy storage solution is co-located with renewable energy generation facilities, enabling more efficient use of existing grid capacity. These solutions support the power system by optimizing the use of the existing grid, avoiding additional pressure on grid expansion.

The agreement includes Merus Power's hybrid controller developed for wind power applications, which allows the energy storage solution and the wind farm to be controlled as an integrated system, thereby enhancing the profitability of existing wind farms. This is the first energy storage solution in Finland built to optimize the operation of an existing wind farm that complies with old grid codes. The hybrid controller represents a significant advancement in Merus Power's product development, expanding the company's portfolio of control solutions in the growing hybrid market. Merus Power has previously used hybrid controllers in projects such as electric boilers.
