en.Wedoany.com Reported - H-Power (the recently renamed technology developer AFC Energy) has announced its first commercial sales agreement for high-purity hydrogen produced at its ammonia cracking facility in Dunsford, UK. Under the agreement, H-Power will supply 5,000 kilograms of hydrogen to hydrogen company Protium over the next twelve months. This commercial sale follows the facility's approval from the UK environmental authority to sell and/or export hydrogen. H-Power, through its joint venture with Industrial Chemicals Group Limited (ICL), also plans to establish high-purity hydrogen production at the Port Clarence ICL facility in Middlesbrough, utilizing multiple Hy-5 ammonia crackers (each capable of producing up to 500 kilograms of hydrogen per day).

Under the agreement, H-Power will establish a "virtual depot" for Protium at its Dunsford facility. Protium's hydrogen storage and logistics assets (including multiple manifolded cylinder packs, MCPs) can be stored here and filled with hydrogen produced from ammonia cracking, with the site subsequently serving as a regional distribution hub. The supplied hydrogen is produced from bio-ammonia, classified as "green hydrogen," with a purity of 99.97% (certified to ISO 14687 Grade D), making it PEM fuel cell grade hydrogen.

Development and launch of H-Power's Hy-5 distributed portable ammonia cracker are progressing well, with plans to deliver to UK industrial customers by the end of 2026.

John Wilson, CEO of H-Power, stated: "This is a first for the UK and clearly demonstrates that H-Power can reliably and safely produce scalable low-carbon hydrogen from our ammonia crackers at commercially viable prices, without relying on government subsidies or incentives. By partnering with Protium, we have jointly solved the dual challenges of hydrogen logistics and hydrogen pricing, achieving large-scale, commercially viable hydrogen production, supply, storage, and distribution. We are helping customers and industries start decarbonizing today, and I am pleased that the UK government and the Environment Agency support our vital role."

Christopher Jackson, CEO and Founder of Protium, stated: "This collaboration effectively demonstrates how innovative technology and strategic distribution can overcome traditional pricing and logistics barriers, accelerating the path to a resilient and self-sustaining green hydrogen economy. By integrating this supply into our logistics network and establishing a 'virtual depot' in Dunsford, we are expanding end-to-end capabilities to deliver practical zero-emission solutions for today's industrial and transport sectors. This is how we make green hydrogen simple and real for our customers."

Emma Hardy, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Water and Flooding) at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, stated: "H-Power's first UK sale of hydrogen from cracked ammonia demonstrates the new innovations we need to both protect the environment and build a more resilient hydrogen supply for the UK to withstand global shocks. Through our environmental permit reforms, we are unlocking investment in new clean energy, driving sustainable economic growth and wider adoption of green technologies such as hydrogen from cracked ammonia."
