en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone online for the HCL-Foxconn joint venture project, India Chip Pvt Ltd, located in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area in Jewar, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The establishment of the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor facility is seen as a key step in India's push for technological self-reliance, aligning with the country's goal of becoming a trusted global hub for high-end electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. In his online address, Modi stated that the facility will enhance India's role in the global chip ecosystem and help the nation achieve balanced development in both software and hardware.

Modi noted that Uttar Pradesh is poised to become a major hub in India's semiconductor ecosystem. He called the current decade India's technology decade, asserting that technological advancements during this period will lay the foundation for the country's strength in the 21st century. He emphasized the importance of building a semiconductor ecosystem for self-sufficiency in chip manufacturing, pointing out that domestically produced chips are crucial for fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), 6G, defense, and electric vehicles (EVs).

Over the past 11 years, India's industrial landscape has undergone significant changes, with the electronics manufacturing sector expanding sixfold. Modi mentioned that domestic production in the mobile phone sector has grown 28 times, while exports have increased by up to 100 times.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, stated that the HCL-Foxconn plant in Noida is expected to produce 36 million chips. He also noted that the electronics industry's valuation has increased to 12 trillion rupees, with Uttar Pradesh being one of the major contributing regions. Vaishnaw mentioned that the recently held India AI Impact Summit 2026 saw participation from 118 countries, with 86 of them supporting the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact.
