en.Wedoany.com Reported - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today reviewed the progress of key infrastructure projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Dhaka.

The review was held at the Cabinet Division meeting room in the Secretariat, focusing on plans such as the construction of a ring road and the effective utilization of surrounding waterways. Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu stated that the meeting centered on how the proposed infrastructure projects could improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the capital. Briefings included the latest progress on the Dhaka Inner Circular Ring Road project, which will extend from Gabtoli to Babubazar and from Postogola to Demra. Currently, sections in Rayerbazar, Hazaribagh, and Kamrangirchar are under construction. Officials reported that approximately 45% of the work on this 12-kilometer route has been completed. Once the ring road is finished, vehicles heading to Sylhet, Mawa, and Chattogram will bypass Dhaka's inner roads, significantly reducing urban traffic pressure.
The meeting also explored the potential of utilizing 110 kilometers of waterways around Dhaka as a complement to the road network. Once operational, the ring waterway is expected to provide an alternative mode of transport, enabling commuters to travel efficiently between different parts of the capital while easing road burdens. Experts attending the meeting elaborated on the technical aspects of the project, suggesting that electric water transport would reduce environmental pollution and fuel consumption, as well as shorten travel times.
Attendees included Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Local Government Division Secretary Shahidul Hassan, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr. Mohammed Ziaul Haque, Shipping Secretary Zakaria, Railway Secretary Fahmidul Islam, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Muhidul Islam, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professors Khan Mahmud Amanat and Hadiuzzaman.
