en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish textile company TexAthenea has expanded its industrial energy storage system at its facility in Villena, Alicante province, adding 2,216 kWh of capacity and 1 MW of power. The expansion was carried out by Cubierta Solar, a company based in Alicante specializing in the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption projects.

The new phase integrates the KuBank 2.0 system from the Sino-Canadian brand Canadian Solar. These batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate technology, equipped with a liquid cooling system, advanced monitoring mechanisms, and safety devices, designed to ensure stable operation in high-demand industrial environments.

This expansion is a continuation of the system launched by the company in 2023. At that time, a 1 MW / 2 MWh energy storage unit was installed, based on Huawei's lithium iron phosphate batteries (model LifePO4245), operating at 245 cycles per year with a charge/discharge power of 1.8 MW.

The expansion incorporates the existing energy infrastructure, which features over 22,000 solar panels with an installed photovoltaic capacity exceeding 8.8 MWp, distributed across rooftops and a self-consumption solar park.
The plant consists of a 5 MW rooftop photovoltaic installation and a 3 MW ground-mounted solar system, generating approximately 12 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to 67% of the company's electricity demand.

Cubierta Solar stated that thanks to this expansion, TexAthenea can now manage an additional 800 MWh of renewable energy annually from its photovoltaic facilities.
