en.Wedoany.com Reported - The UK government has approved two large solar farms in Yorkshire and Cumbria, expected to generate enough electricity for over 200,000 homes.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (Desnz) announced on Thursday that the Dean Moor solar farm in West Cumbria and the Peartree Hill solar farm in East Yorkshire have both been approved for construction.
The Dean Moor site, located between Gilgarran and Branthwaite, can generate enough electricity to power 50,000 homes. The Peartree Hill site, about 12 miles north of Hull, can meet the needs of 167,000 households.
This approval is part of the UK government's clean energy plan, which includes a target to virtually eliminate all fossil fuels from the UK's electricity grid by 2030.
Since the Labour Party took office in July 2024, 29 major clean energy projects have been approved. Ministers said the total generation capacity of these projects is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 18 million households or the entire Southeast of England.
Energy Minister Michael Shanks said the government is accelerating the push for clean, domestically produced electricity to lower bills and safeguard national interests. He noted that solar power is one of the cheapest forms of energy, helping the UK break free from volatile international fossil fuel markets and achieve energy independence.
Desnz stated that Lord Alan Whitehead has formally approved these projects on behalf of Energy Secretary Ed Miliband.
