en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Santa Catarina State Environmental Institute (Instituto do Meio Ambiente de Santa Catarina, IMA) has launched the Post-Consumer Packaging Reverse Logistics System (SisREV SC), aiming to track the entire reverse logistics process in the state in an integrated manner and monitor the achievement of legally established recycling targets.

Santa Catarina gains a system to enhance transparency in reverse logistics

The system is a digital platform designed to connect reverse logistics stakeholders, including manufacturers, importers, distributors, traders, management entities, cooperatives, and recyclers. Through this platform, waste management transparency can be improved, and the traceability and information security of reverse logistics processes can be enhanced. IMA President Josué Fernandes stated that SisREV SC is an environmental governance tool aimed at ensuring transparency, information reliability, and effective tracking of established targets, uniting all participants in the process.

The implementation of this system is one of the steps to enforce Santa Catarina State Decree No. 1.056/2025, issued in 2025 to regulate reverse logistics operations for post-consumer packaging. José Lourival Magri, President of the Environment and Sustainability Committee of the State Industry Federation (Fiesc), pointed out that the industrial sector supports mechanisms that bring greater security, transparency, and predictability to the fulfillment of environmental obligations. He believes these measures are crucial for strengthening environmental management and enhancing confidence in compliance with legal requirements. The committee president also stated that reverse logistics represents a pursuit of the circular economy; when materials can be reused and waste is reduced, waste ceases to be a liability and is instead integrated into new production chains, making industries more competitive and strengthening their integration into the global market.

Santa Catarina is the first Brazilian state to eliminate open-air dumps, an achievement resulting from the joint efforts of public institutions, the productive sector, and the Public Ministry. Currently, the state faces the challenge of advancing material recovery and strengthening the circular economy, requiring mechanisms that can measure, monitor, and expand recycling outcomes to consolidate progress made and improve waste management efficiency.
