China Railway Construction Heavy Industry's Shield Machine Sets Record with 770 Meters Monthly Excavation in Turkey

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The earth pressure balance shield machine independently developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry (CRCHI) set a new overseas monthly excavation record in a Turkish water diversion tunnel project. In June, the equipment achieved daily excavation of 34 meters, weekly excavation of 215 meters, and monthly excavation of 770 meters.

This shield machine has an excavation diameter of 7.78 meters, a total length of approximately 144 meters, and a total weight of about 1,500 tons. The equipment was specially designed for the project's long-distance hard rock strata, featuring a reinforced cutterhead structure paired with 19-inch disc cutters to enhance rock-breaking capability. To address potential methane gas in the strata, the machine adopts a closed slag discharge system and localized explosion-proof design. Additionally, it is equipped with intelligent systems such as online disc cutter wear monitoring and muck volume scanning.

At the project site, CRCHI's technical service team provided full-chain technical support for construction. The team conducted systematic hands-on training for local crews on shield operation and equipment maintenance, while optimizing excavation parameters and maintenance plans in real time based on Turkey's geological conditions. As a result, the team received client recognition and was awarded a plaque of honor. In the Turkish market, CRCHI has multiple shield machines participating in infrastructure projects such as subways and water conservancy works in cities including Istanbul and Izmir.
