en.Wedoany.com Reported - Yarra Valley Water has achieved operational net zero emissions four years ahead of regulatory requirements, reaching net zero operational emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) in the 2025-26 financial year. The Melbourne utility's results will be confirmed through the annual reporting process following final data verification and carbon offset reconciliation, positioning it as one of Victoria's leading water companies in emissions reduction.

This achievement aligns with the Victorian Government's Statement of Obligations (Emission Reduction), under which Yarra Valley Water set a target to report net zero operational emissions by 2025-26. Since July 1, 2025, the company has used 100% renewable electricity across its operations, significantly reducing operational emissions. This transition has been supported by ongoing energy efficiency improvements and operational changes in water and wastewater services.

For residual emissions that cannot currently be eliminated, the company addresses them through investments in Australian Government-accredited high-integrity carbon offset projects. Managing Director Natalie Foeng said this milestone reflects years of practical action to reduce emissions across the company's operations. "Reporting net zero operational emissions for the 2025-26 financial year demonstrates what can be achieved when you focus on tangible emissions reduction actions," Foeng said. "We have turned clear commitments into action by improving how we operate, reducing energy use, and switching to renewable electricity across our services."

Yarra Valley Water stated it will continue efforts to further reduce emissions, including its broader Scope 3 emissions, through measures such as electrifying its fleet and increasing renewable energy generated from solar power and food waste. Foeng said the organization has always focused on reducing emissions before relying on offsets. "We have focused on making practical changes at our sites to avoid and reduce emissions, and only then using offsets for the small amount that remains," Foeng said. "We are continuing to take action, from transitioning to an electric fleet to generating renewable electricity from solar and food waste, and we will continue to be transparent in how we report our emissions and how we achieve net zero."
