en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy (SWREL), in a joint venture with Hassan Allam Construction, has secured a $560 million engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the West Minya Solar Project in Egypt's Minya Governorate. The project will build a 1,000 MWac solar power plant integrated with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), described as one of the country's largest utility-scale solar developments.
Under the contract, the joint venture assumes full EPC responsibilities, including the installation of photovoltaic power generation facilities, battery storage infrastructure, transmission works, and grid interconnection. The scope also covers balance-of-plant systems and related civil and electrical works required for commercial operation. SWREL will leverage its experience in delivering large-scale solar projects to complete the project on schedule while ensuring safety and quality standards.
SWREL reported that this order is the third gigawatt-scale project secured in the past nine months, reflecting the growth of large-scale solar photovoltaic projects globally and continued customer confidence in its execution capabilities. The integration of advanced BESS technology is expected to support grid stability and enable higher renewable energy penetration by storing midday generation for later use. The project aims to contribute to Egypt's renewable energy capacity and strengthen the contractor's presence in the region.
The announcement did not disclose project financing details, but the contract value underscores significant investment in clean energy infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa region. Project completion requires coordination with local authorities and grid operators to ensure timely commissioning and handover. The joint venture will carry out procurement and construction activities in accordance with the contract schedule.
