en.Wedoany.com Reported - OCSiAl has been designated by PowerCo, the battery manufacturing subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, as a supplier of single-wall carbon nanotubes for its Unified Cell platform. The Luxembourg-based company will supply PowerCo with products from its facility in Stara Pazova, Serbia, which has been operational since 2024.

PowerCo is the battery manufacturing subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, dedicated to its Unified Cell platform. The subsidiary's plant in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, Germany, has been in operation since the end of last year, when Volkswagen announced it as Europe's first full-scale battery production line. OCSiAl stated that its advanced nanotube solutions, integrated into electrodes, help improve safety, charging performance, and battery lifespan.
Single-wall carbon nanotubes are used in the cathode and anode systems of lithium-ion batteries. OCSiAl noted that the facility in Serbia, built in 2024, has met stringent quality and reliability requirements and successfully passed audits by PowerCo as well as other European and Asian battery manufacturers.
OCSiAl is reportedly the world's largest producer of graphene nanotubes and the only industrial manufacturer of single-wall carbon nanotubes. The company supplies its Tuball single-wall carbon nanotubes from Serbia to most European electric vehicle battery manufacturers. These nanotubes are used in the cathode and anode systems of lithium-ion batteries to enhance energy density, fast-charging performance, and battery cycle life. The name OCSiAl represents oxygen (O), carbon (C), silicon (Si), and aluminum (Al).
Gregory Gurevich, Senior Vice President of the company, stated that batteries containing OCSiAl nanotubes currently power approximately one million electric vehicles worldwide. In the PowerCo project, the company provides nanotube solutions for graphite anodes, where single-wall carbon nanotubes significantly improve the conductivity of graphite anodes and enhance heat dissipation, enabling battery cells to operate at higher charge and discharge currents without overheating. OCSiAl is developing its flagship graphene nanotube facility in Luxembourg, valued at $300 million, and the company was founded in 2010.
