en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Water Authority (DGA), under Chile's Ministry of Public Works, held a new round of Strategic Water Resource Meetings (MERH) in the Huasco and Copiapó provinces of the Atacama Region to strengthen collaboration for sustainable water resource management and advance watershed planning.

The meetings brought together representatives from public services, water user organizations, monitoring committees, academia, the productive sector, and other stakeholders involved in water resource management, who exchanged views on the needs and challenges of their respective areas.
In Vallenar, the 11th regular meeting of the Huasco River Basin Strategic Water Resource Meeting was held. The progress of work from previous sessions was presented, along with the methodology for implementing the Basin Strategic Water Resource Plan (PERHC), which will guide actions aimed at strengthening water security in the region.
In Copiapó, where the region is in the initial phase of strategic planning, the second regular meeting of the Copiapó River Basin Strategic Water Resource Meeting took place. The scope of the strategic planning basin for the Copiapó PERHC was introduced, and participants identified key issues related to water availability and use, a critical step in developing the future strategic water resource plan.
Paula Guerrero, representative of the Ministry of Public Works in the Atacama Region, stated that water is a strategic resource for the region's development and that the government is promoting planning that considers the realities of each basin and stakeholder participation. These meetings enable parties to build solutions with a long-term vision, strengthening water security and improving people's quality of life.
María Fernanda Avilés, Regional Director of Chile's Water Authority (DGA), noted that the Strategic Water Resource Meetings are a space where different basin stakeholders come together to contribute local experience and knowledge. This collaboration is essential for defining strategic plans for each basin in the region, which will guide future water management decisions while considering local needs and the impacts of climate change.
The Water Authority stated that it will continue advancing this work throughout the year, implementing the Huasco River Basin Strategic Water Resource Plan and progressing the development of the corresponding plan for the Copiapó River Basin, with the goal of taking participatory steps toward more efficient and sustainable water resource management.
