en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recently awarded six projects totaling approximately $14.3 million. Among them, five pavement resurfacing contracts are valued at about $13.2 million, accounting for 93% of the total awarded funds; one bridge construction project is valued at approximately $1.1 million. The cumulative total of construction contracts awarded by the department for Fiscal Year 2026 (July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026) has reached approximately $2.4 billion.

GDOT is the government agency responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining highways, interstates, and major thoroughfares in the state. The largest pavement resurfacing project, valued at approximately $4.8 million, involves a 5.86-mile segment in Troup County. The work includes milling, patching, and hot in-place recycling resurfacing on U.S. Route 27/SR 1 from north of Willis Drive to north of Fernwood Drive. The remaining four pavement resurfacing projects bring the total resurfacing contract value to approximately $13.2 million.

The sole bridge construction project, valued at approximately $1.1 million, is located in Crisp County. The work includes constructing a new bridge and approaches over a tributary of Swift Creek, involving approximately 0.18 miles of Lower Pateville Road (County Road 11). Bids for all Design-Bid-Build projects closed on May 15, and contracts were awarded on May 29 to the lowest qualified bidders. Additionally, some previously delayed projects were awarded on May 28 and June 2.

The $14.3 million in projects awarded in May represent GDOT's latest round of investment in the state's transportation infrastructure as Fiscal Year 2026 draws to a close. The cumulative $2.4 billion in contract awards for Fiscal Year 2026 encompasses multiple categories, including Transportation Investment Act (TIA) projects, Design-Bid-Build projects, and locally administered projects. The implementation of these projects will improve key transportation routes in Troup and Crisp counties, enhancing regional road safety and traffic efficiency.
