en.Wedoany.com Reported - Scatec ASA has commenced operations at its 142 MW Rio Urucuia solar power plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is Scatec's third solar project in Brazil, bringing its total installed capacity in the country to 835 MW.

The plant generates revenue through a ten-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with renewable energy company Statkraft, covering approximately 75% of expected output. The remaining electricity will be traded on the short-term market and through short-, medium-, and long-term PPAs.

Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog stated that the company is pleased to have started power generation at its third solar project in Brazil and to have expanded its generation capacity in the country. As Scatec's first plant in the southeastern submarket, the Rio Urucuia project diversifies its operations in Brazil, a region with strong electricity demand.

Rio Urucuia is expected to produce approximately 321 GWh of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to reducing about 21,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Scatec holds 100% equity in the project and aims to further enhance value creation by introducing capital partners. The company will provide operations and maintenance (O&M) and asset management services for the plant. Scatec Brazil General Manager Aleksander Skaare stated that Rio Urucuia represents a significant milestone for Scatec in Brazil, consolidating its position in Minas Gerais and adding clean, reliable electricity to the region.
