en.Wedoany.com Reported - German metallurgical equipment manufacturer SMS Group announced in early July 2026 that it has secured an order from Baosteel Steel Pipe (Ma'anshan) Science and Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China's Baosteel, to supply two complete PQF® seamless steel pipe production lines for its manufacturing base in Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province. Each production line is designed with an annual capacity of approximately 1.18 million tons.

Baosteel Steel Pipe is the seamless steel pipe business unit of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Baosteel). To advance this high-end seamless steel pipe project, Baosteel approved the first phase in August 2025, investing 3.085 billion yuan (approximately $454 million) to establish the Baosteel Steel Pipe Ma'anshan project company, with a total project investment estimated at about 4.96 billion yuan. Construction of the project began in April 2026, aiming to fill the gap in medium-diameter seamless steel pipe specifications and enhance Baosteel Steel Pipe's competitiveness.

Headquartered in Germany, SMS Group is a globally leading supplier of metallurgical equipment. Under the contract, SMS Group will provide all core mechanical equipment, Level 1 automation systems, process measurement systems, and CARTAneo® process technology software. The two production lines will be equipped with cone-type piercing mills, PQF® continuous rolling mills, and sizing mills, as well as auxiliary equipment such as PQF® roll reconditioning machines and sizing mill stand reconditioning machines.

The PQF159 production line will feature a CTP1000VD cone-type piercing mill, a 7-inch PQF® BCO continuous rolling mill, and a 350A28 sizing mill. The PQF258 production line will be equipped with a CTP1150VD cone-type piercing mill, a 10-inch PQF® BCO continuous rolling mill, and a 500A20 sizing mill. SMS Group will also provide the latest technologies such as Crop End Control (CEC) and Wall Thickness Control Automation (WTCA/WTCL).

Christian Haferkamp, General Manager of Sales and Technology for Seamless Steel Pipe Plants at SMS Group, stated that SMS Group is committed to delivering exceptional performance, efficiency, and product quality to support Baosteel in achieving its ambitious growth and production targets.

Steel pipe production on the first line is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2027. This project represents a key step in Baosteel's high-end seamless steel pipe strategy and marks another milestone in the long-term cooperation between SMS Group and Baosteel Steel Pipe in advanced steel pipe manufacturing technology.
