en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, KFM in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) held a handover ceremony for projects under its Social Responsibility Charter (Cahier des charges, 2025-2026), officially transferring 10 community infrastructure projects completed during the second implementation year to the Bayeke Chiefdom. This delivery marks substantial progress by KFM in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility and promoting sustainable local development, further solidifying the foundation for long-term cooperation with local communities.
The Bayeke Chiefdom is an important traditional and local administrative entity in the region, exerting significant influence over community affairs near KFM. The 10 delivered projects focus on the most pressing needs in the area, including education, healthcare, public activity spaces, energy supply, and economic support.
In education, KFM built six standard classrooms in the villages of Mayeba and Bwasalangana, complete with sanitation facilities, textbooks for grades one through six, desks, chairs, and teacher office equipment. It also constructed walls around three schools in Mayeba, Dikanda, and Bwasalangana to enhance campus security. In healthcare, the project added a maternity ward at the Mayeba village health center and expanded the Kisanfu Gare health center with a maternity ward and inpatient ward, both fully equipped with medical devices and medicines. For public activity spaces, KFM built multi-purpose halls for the first time in Kisanfu Gare, Mayeba, and Dikanda, equipped with chairs and kitchen utensils. It also established a community radio station and a modern market in Kisanfu Gare. In economic and energy support, KFM constructed a brick-making plant in Kisanfu Koni village and built granaries in Mayeba, Dikanda, and Kisanfu Gare to help farmers store grain and seeds. To address electricity shortages in remote villages, the project installed multi-functional solar charging stations in Kalebi, Bwasalangana, and Mushi Wa Mumba, and deployed household solar power systems for 92 households in Mibanze village and 60 households in Kawala village.

Local representatives, including the Chief Representative of the Grand Chief, the Permanent Administrative Representative of Kisanfu, the Representative of the Koni Land Chief, and members of the Local Development Committee, attended the ceremony and jointly signed the project handover documents with KFM. The Chief Representative of the Grand Chief stated at the ceremony that the Social Responsibility Charter projects have yielded fruitful results, and KFM's efforts are evident, directly benefiting local residents and improving their well-being.

These 10 achievements represent a significant milestone in the annual progress of KFM's Social Responsibility Charter projects, reflecting a cooperative model of co-building and sharing development dividends between the company and the community.
It is reported that the Social Responsibility Charter is a corporate social responsibility requirement imposed by the DRC government on mining companies operating in the country. According to Article 285 of the revised 2018 Mining Code, the primary purpose of the Social Responsibility Charter is to urge holders of mining or quarry rights to assume social responsibilities toward affected local communities. KFM has committed to investing nearly $8 million from 2024 to 2028, planning to implement 23 projects covering education, health, economic development, energy, and infrastructure, with a focus on building women's capacity and community self-development capabilities. The projects are expected to benefit nearly 20,000 people.
