en.Wedoany.com Reported - Greenvolt Group is developing solar projects for three shopping centers managed by Widerproperty—Tavira Plaza, La Vie Caldas, and Torres Shopping—using an operational model that combines self-consumption of renewable energy with energy communities. Greenvolt Next will install a total of 1,767 solar panels with a combined capacity of 944.47 kWp, capable of generating approximately 1.8 GWh of renewable energy annually. Most of the electricity produced will be used for self-consumption by the shopping centers, helping to reduce electricity costs, improve asset energy efficiency, and cut approximately 440 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

According to the announcement, these shopping centers will also join Greenvolt's energy community, allowing them to share renewable energy with tenants and other participants while benefiting from the energy provided by the community.

João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, stated that these projects demonstrate a shift in how businesses utilize energy, particularly in the commercial retail sector. He noted that shopping centers are no longer just energy consumers but are transforming into producers and sharers of renewable energy, a shift that can increase asset value, reduce operating costs, and enable more consumers to benefit from renewable energy.

Marcos Gomes, Retail Director of Widerproperty, said that decarbonization, energy efficiency, sustainability, and achieving ESG goals are now central to their asset management. He believes these projects help reduce operating costs, enhance the energy autonomy of shopping centers, and create additional value for tenants, while also boosting the attractiveness and competitiveness of the assets.

Widerproperty manages over 1 million square meters of assets and continuously invests in solutions that improve the efficiency and value of its portfolio. The integration of these shopping centers into energy communities reflects this strategy, while also solidifying Greenvolt Comunidades' position as a leader in this segment in Portugal. The company currently has over 160 active communities with an operational capacity of 55 MWp, and more than 60 MWp of projects under development.
