en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lightpath announced on July 8, 2026, that it will build new fiber infrastructure to provide AI-grade network connectivity for two hyperscale data center campuses under construction, addressing the surge in capacity demand driven by artificial intelligence.

Lightpath provides AI-grade fiber for data centers

Located in Saline, Michigan, and Port Washington, Wisconsin, both campuses have planned capacities exceeding 1 gigawatt. Lightpath will provide them with Triverse fiber infrastructure and multi-terabit capacity. Construction in Saline is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026, followed by the Port Washington project in the second quarter of 2027, with both projects completed in collaboration with a core hyperscale customer.

Lightpath CEO Chris Morley stated that partnering with hyperscale companies to build new fiber infrastructure in response to AI-driven demand across the United States reflects the company's increasingly important role. He believes fiber infrastructure remains a critical component of the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.

Previously, Lightpath expanded mission-critical AI-grade fiber infrastructure in Phoenix, eastern Pennsylvania, and Columbus, and launched its first long-haul trunk corridor connecting Columbus and Chicago. These new projects are a continuation of that expansion.

Lightpath Chief Commercial Officer Tim Haverkate noted that the needs of gigawatt-scale AI campuses go beyond underground fiber; they require partners capable of integrating new builds, existing Lightpath network assets, and strategic partner fiber to design end-to-end connectivity solutions. By creatively combining these assets, Lightpath can deliver route-diverse multi-terabit capacity at the pace of hyperscale AI development.

Through these construction projects, Lightpath will continue extending its proprietary AI-grade fiber network into markets concentrated with hyperscale and AI workloads, ensuring customers can connect to their digital destinations with the scale and resilience required by these workloads.
