en.Wedoany.com Reported - Uzbekistan is advancing nearly 100 priority projects under its national artificial intelligence development strategy, covering multiple sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, finance, industry, and e-government. Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov presented the progress at the Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Uzbek delegation participated in the global dialogue held on July 5-6, the first such conference within the United Nations system. Representatives from international organizations, delegations from over 170 countries, top scientists, technology companies, investors, and civil society participated. UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated at the opening ceremony that this global dialogue is the first permanent global platform focused on AI governance, playing a significant role in shaping common principles and strengthening international cooperation. International Telecommunication Union Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin and UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany emphasized the importance of inclusive AI governance approaches, improving international legal and ethical standards, sharing experiences among nations, and protecting human rights.
Shermatov outlined Uzbekistan's implementation of the AI Technology Development Strategy through 2030 during a high-level plenary session. He stated that nearly 100 priority projects are being implemented in healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, finance, industry, and e-government.

Uzbekistan is also focusing on developing human capital for an AI-driven economy. The minister noted that over one million citizens have obtained certificates through the "5 Million AI Leaders" project, while more than 3,000 government employees are undergoing professional training. Additionally, 90 government agencies have appointed experts responsible for AI development. The country has also improved its position in international AI rankings. In the Oxford Insights Government AI Readiness Index, Uzbekistan ranks 62nd out of 195 countries, up 25 places from before. Shermatov stated that data security, transparency, ethics, cybersecurity, and human oversight must remain fundamental principles of AI development, and Uzbekistan is willing to further expand international cooperation in AI development and governance.
