en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peak Energy, a US developer of grid-scale sodium-ion energy storage systems, announced that it has selected Sacramento, California, as the location for its first manufacturing facility. The plant will specialize in producing grid-scale sodium-ion energy storage systems, becoming the first of its kind in the United States, with an annual capacity of 4 GWh, enough to power nearly 4 million homes.

Peak Energy's 183,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Sacramento

Covering 183,000 square feet, the facility is scheduled to begin production and shipments in the first quarter of 2027. Peak Energy has already secured customer commitments exceeding 6 GWh. The company stated that this plant will help meet the rapidly growing energy storage demand driven by artificial intelligence computing power and data center expansion, while enhancing US energy security and domestic manufacturing capabilities. Peak Energy's sodium-ion battery energy storage systems utilize passive cooling technology, designed for an operational lifespan exceeding 20 years without regular maintenance, reducing energy storage costs by approximately 20% and ensuring 99% system uptime. In California alone, eliminating battery cooling costs could save taxpayers an average of $100 million annually.

Landon Mossburg, CEO and co-founder of Peak Energy, stated that the US needs lower-cost, more reliable grid-scale energy storage systems, and the establishment of this facility demonstrates America's leadership in technological innovation and large-scale manufacturing, helping to drive energy innovation and reduce electricity bills. The total investment for the project is $71 million, and it is expected to create 239 local jobs over the next 18 months, with an average annual salary exceeding $90,000. Combined with Peak Energy's overall growth in California, the company anticipates a net addition of 348 jobs in the Sacramento and headquarters Burlingame areas by 2030. The project has received $10.5 million in CalCompetes tax credits from the California government, awarded in May 2026.

Peak Energy has entered into customer agreements with Jupiter Power, Energy Vault, and RWE Americas, and has established a strategic partnership with General Motors, securing investment from GM Ventures. Dee Dee Myers, Director of the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, stated that Peak Energy's investment will bring jobs and economic opportunities to California and ensure that the hardware for the energy transition is manufactured locally. Barry Broome, President of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, believes the project will create opportunities for the local community and solidify Sacramento's position as a destination for innovative companies.
