en.Wedoany.com Reported - Last month, Ignitis secured 4 TWh per year of regasification capacity for the period 2033–2044 through a long-term capacity allocation procedure organized by LNG terminal operator KN Energies. In a statement on Wednesday, the company said it had also acquired an additional 2 TWh per year of regasification capacity for the same period via the secondary market. Ignitis noted that long-term access to terminal capacity enhances flexibility in gas supply planning, supports the diversification of supply sources, and strengthens energy resilience in Lithuania and the Baltic region.

In addition to Ignitis, Finland's Gasum, Ukraine's Naftogaz, Latvia's Latvenergo, and Norway's Equinor also participated in this long-term regasification capacity allocation last month. According to KN Energies, most of the capacity offered during the allocation process has been assigned, totaling over 20 TWh, of which 8 TWh covers the period up to and including 2044, and another 12 TWh covers the period up to 2040. Considering the results of this procedure, along with the 4 TWh long-term capacity package (valid until 2044) allocated as early as 2023, the total utilization rate of the LNG terminal will reach approximately 75% of its nominal capacity.
KN Energies has also recently launched the regasification capacity allocation procedure for 2027. In December 2024, the company took over the 170,000-cubic-meter floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Independence from Hoegh Evi, which has been registered under the Lithuanian flag. In March last year, the FSRU completed its 500th ship-to-ship LNG transfer at Klaipėda since its commissioning in 2014. The LNG processed primarily originates from Norway and the United States, but has also included cargoes from countries such as Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, and Algeria.
