en.Wedoany.com Reported - Hamad International Airport (HIA), in collaboration with Qatar Airways and SITA, has launched a biometric system called "Fast Pass." Registered passengers can use their faces instead of ID documents from check-in to boarding.

The system connects over 700 touchpoints across the airport through a single, secure biometric process, covering check-in, baggage drop, security screening, and boarding. Passengers can complete a one-time registration via the Qatar Airways mobile app or self-service kiosks within the terminal, a process that takes just seconds. Once registered, their face serves as a boarding pass.
SITA's self-service baggage drop units also perform the same facial verification. This infrastructure is designed to ensure high security and data protection while allowing passengers to maintain control over their personal identity information. Participation in this service is optional, and passengers who choose to follow standard procedures can still receive assistance from staff.
Transit passengers on Qatar Airways and other airlines operating from Hamad International Airport will also be able to use the "Fast Pass" service in the near future. A study by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows that the majority of passengers prefer biometric methods over physical documents. Verifying a passenger's identity only once and recognizing them at each touchpoint helps the airport manage growing passenger volumes without increasing wait times.
For passengers, the departure experience is changing: a quick glance at a camera when checking in luggage, no need to search for documents during security screening, and a simple eye confirmation at boarding. Selim Bouri, President of SITA for the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, stated that secure digital identity is at the core of this transformation. He also noted that when passengers are identified once and recognized throughout their journey, airport operations run more smoothly, and travelers maintain control over their data. The implementation at Hamad International Airport demonstrates how this model can be applied on a large scale.
Hamad International Airport plans to gradually expand this service to more touchpoints outside the terminal, including check-in and verification processes.
