en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peru's transmission network has grown significantly over the past two decades, expanding from 9,700 kilometers to over 30,000 kilometers by the end of 2025. Data from the National Interconnected System Economic Operation Committee (COES) shows that this progress has been driven by the implementation of 500 kV lines since 2011.
Improvements in transmission infrastructure are crucial for Peru's economic growth and narrowing regional disparities. According to a report from the Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversión), between 2002 and 2026, 79 projects have been awarded through public-private partnership (APP) and asset project (PA) models, with an estimated total investment of $11.145 billion.
Edgar Patiño, Director of the Investor Service Department at ProInversión, stated that of this total investment, $5.544 billion has been allocated to 16 power generation projects, while $5.6013 billion has been focused on strengthening the transmission network through 63 specific projects. He emphasized that the 2026 electricity sector APP portfolio amounts to $1 billion, covering 13 regions nationwide. This plan is executed through four project clusters under the 2025-2034 Transmission Plan: Cluster 1 has already been awarded, with an amount of $339 million; Clusters 2, 3, and 4 have investments of $392 million, $165 million, and $145 million, respectively, and are scheduled to be awarded between the third and fourth quarters of 2026.
The awarding of these projects will directly improve the quality of electricity services in regions including Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Lima, Junín, Ica, Ayacucho, Tacna, Puno, Cusco, Madre de Dios, Ucayali, and San Martín. Among them, Cluster 2, expected to be awarded in the third quarter of 2026, will benefit 1.8 million people through key projects such as the 500 kV Collectora-Bicentenario-Chilca interconnection line. Clusters 3 and 4 will improve electricity supply for 1.5 million and 551,000 new users, respectively, by the end of the year.
The above statements were made by Edgar Patiño during his participation in the "Peru Energy 2026 Expo."
