en.Wedoany.com Reported - California State University, Bakersfield is developing a 3.5 MW integrated solar power and battery energy storage project to enhance campus energy system stability and control energy costs. The project includes a 3.5 MW photovoltaic installation and a battery energy storage system (BESS), designed to release stored electricity during peak demand periods. Once operational, the project is expected to meet approximately 40% of the university's electricity needs, thereby reducing reliance on the external grid. The battery energy storage system adds flexibility to campus energy management by storing solar power during the day and discharging it during peak consumption hours. By utilizing renewable solar energy, the project is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 775.6 metric tons annually. Additionally, the project will provide students and faculty with real-time and historical energy data on renewable energy, engineering, and sustainability to support teaching activities and research.
