en.Wedoany.com Reported - Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has completed a special inspection of 7,076 power facilities nationwide and activated its power supply and demand emergency response system in preparation for extreme weather conditions such as summer heatwaves, heavy rain, and typhoons.
KEPCO President Kim Dong-cheol visited the Seoul headquarters substation, regional network control center, and substation on July 9 to assess the on-site response posture. During his tour of the core facilities serving as the grid control tower, he reviewed equipment operation status and emergency recovery systems, emphasizing the need for an impeccable on-site response system to ensure stable power supply for the public during the summer peak demand period.

Previously, KEPCO conducted a special inspection of major power facilities nationwide from May 15 to June 19. A total of 9,741 personnel participated, inspecting 7,076 power facilities across the country, identifying 282 potential risk factors, and taking immediate corrective measures. In the transmission and transformation sector, 1,393 transmission towers at risk of landslides and 217 cable tunnels with potential flooding or water leakage issues were inspected; drainage facilities at 321 substations and exterior walls and outdoor equipment at 144 substations were also thoroughly examined. In the distribution sector, to address increased summer power demand, 1,176 transformers were replaced; through scientific diagnostics of 1.3 million devices, over 6,000 units were restored to normal operation; power supply lines to 2,223 flood control facilities (such as pumping stations) were inspected, and reinforcement work was completed on 66 pieces of equipment.
KEPCO has designated the period from June 29 to September 18 as the "Summer Power Supply and Demand Countermeasure Period," during which it will monitor the operational status of power facilities nationwide in real time and maintain a rapid recovery system to respond to emergencies. Kim Dong-cheol stated that due to climate change, summer disasters have become more complex and power demand continues to grow, and the company will do its utmost to ensure the stable operation of power facilities so that the public can use electricity with peace of mind.
