BYD Breaks Ground on Passenger Vehicle Plant in Cambodia

Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 29, On April 28, 2025, BYD, a leading global manufacturer, launched construction of a new passenger vehicle plant in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, Cambodia. The facility, spanning 120,000 square meters, is designed to produce 10,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) annually, focusing on supplying high-quality, sustainable vehicles to the Cambodian market. Operations are expected to commence by the end of 2025.

Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD’s Asia-Pacific Automobile Sales Division, highlighted the company’s strong market performance in Cambodia. He stated: “BYD has already achieved strong sales performance in Cambodia, securing nearly 1,000-unit NEV orders in the first quarter of this year alone.” This success underscores the growing trust and demand for BYD’s NEV products among Cambodian consumers.

Beyond vehicle production, BYD is committed to supporting Cambodia’s development by establishing a training center dedicated to nurturing local talent in NEV technology. This initiative aims to enhance the technical expertise within Cambodia’s NEV sector while creating job opportunities and fostering career growth for young Cambodians. The training center is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s emerging sustainable automotive industry.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, BYD also marked a key milestone by partnering with Smart Axiata, Cambodia’s leading telecommunications provider, for a fleet handover event. The delivery of NEVs to the Cambodian market during this ceremony reinforces BYD’s expanding presence in the region and strengthens its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

The new plant and associated initiatives reflect BYD’s strategic focus on meeting the rising demand for NEVs in Cambodia while supporting local economic and technical development.
