en.Wedoany.com Reported - KB Signaling Inc. is undertaking a multi-year upgrade of the Incremental Train Control System (ITCS) on Fortescue's heavy-haul iron ore railway in Western Australia. The project will modernize trackside service hardware on KB Signaling's existing ElectroLogIXS platform, enabling Fortescue to change routes and destinations without stopping trains. KB Signaling officials stated that the upgrade will also enable real-time monitoring of hundreds of kilometers of remote desert tracks. The project has commenced and is expected to continue until mid-2027. Since the ITCS deployment in the early 2010s, the system has been responsible for managing train intervals, enforcing speed limits, and facilitating high-frequency ore transport between mines and Port Hedland. Under the upgrade contract, KB Signaling will also deploy several of its new technologies on the Fortescue network for evaluation.
Stadler's EURO6000 electric locomotive has been approved for operation in Belgium, further solidifying its position as a versatile and efficient option for cross-border freight in Western Europe. The locomotive received approval for operation in Luxembourg in late 2025 and is already used for international freight services between France and Spain. The EURO6000 features a six-axle design with a power output of 6 MW. It is a multi-system electric locomotive capable of hauling freight trains exceeding 2,200 tons while maintaining commercial operating speeds. Inigo Parra, Executive Vice President of Stadler's Spanish division, stated that the locomotive is designed for seamless international operations and can now achieve non-stop freight transport between Barcelona and Antwerp, a key axis of the Trans-European Transport Network.
Hitachi Rail will extend the deployment of European Train Control System Level 2 (ETCS L2) to the Gold Coast line in Australia, between Kuraby and Beenleigh stations. Hitachi Rail officials stated that this section upgrade is the final phase of a nearly 125-mile signaling digitization project for the Southeast Queensland passenger rail network. Hitachi Rail has already installed ETCS L2 on the Shorncliffe line north of Brisbane, enabling system testing and training for Queensland Rail employees. Construction and installation work is also underway between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes stations south of Brisbane. Hitachi Rail officials noted that as Southeast Queensland prepares for urban growth and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, digital signaling is crucial for ensuring frequent, reliable, and sustainable rail services.
