en.Wedoany.com Reported - In 2025, U.S. slag cement shipments surpassed 4 million tons, reaching an all-time high. The Slag Cement Association (SCA) stated that this achievement marks a decisive shift toward next-generation building materials that offer enhanced durability, long-term performance, and significantly reduced environmental impact.
This growth reflects rising market demand and the industry's broader commitment to smarter, more sustainable construction. Sales of blended cement containing slag also experienced notable growth, with shipments in 2025 increasing by 18% year-over-year and a compound annual growth rate of nearly 6% since 2020. These figures highlight the accelerating transformation of the concrete industry, driven by demands for performance, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure.
Nick Brimley, Director of Marketing and Membership at SCA, attributed the record shipments to the expansion of the association's membership. Since 2024, CalPortland, Silvi Materials, Texas Lehigh Cement, and Sathi USA have joined the SCA. Brimley stated that the addition of new members has strengthened the industry's ability to meet the growing demand for slag cement in the U.S. market.
A key driver of this growth is the rapid expansion of global digital infrastructure. Hyperscale data center operators are increasingly specifying slag cement for constructing large-scale data center campuses to meet sustainability goals and ensure long-term structural integrity. With its superior resistance to environmental stress and lower embodied carbon, slag cement has become the preferred material for heavy foundations and complex structural requirements in the technology and artificial intelligence sectors. The SCA expects slag cement shipments to maintain a steady upward trend as hyperscale developers and civil infrastructure projects prioritize durable, low-carbon materials.
