en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Spanish State Port Authority (Puertos del Estado) has approved the 2027 business plan of the Las Palmas Port Authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Las Palmas). The approved projects include the expansion of the breakwater at the commercial dock of Puerto del Rosario (budgeted at $505 million), the development of a feasibility plan for the expansion of the cruise terminal at Puerto de Arrecife, and the installation of shore power infrastructure for inter-island ferry terminals (with an investment of $2.3 million per terminal).

At the Port of Las Palmas (Puerto de Las Palmas), major projects include the expansion of the Reina Sofía South Jetty (espigón sur Reina Sofía) and adjacent docks, as well as the expansion of the Juan Sebastián Elcano Dock (muelle Juan Sebastián Elcano), the latter aimed at supporting the offshore wind energy industry.

The President of the Las Palmas Port Authority, Beatriz Calzada, together with the General Manager, Francisco Trujillo, presented the Port Authority's 2027 business plan to the State Port Authority. This document establishes the management strategy and investment plan for the coming year and has been approved by the President of the State Port Authority, Gustavo Santana. The Port Authority stated that this will enable it to advance the planned public investments.

At the Port of Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, approximately 25 projects are expected to be undertaken. Among them, extending the Reina Sofía South Breakwater by 200 meters is a key project, which will reach a depth of 24.70 meters after extension. This project, costing $23 million and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder), will provide greater protection for the harbor basin, particularly for the new León y Castillo Docks (muelles de León y Castillo), while increasing berthing capacity for offshore oil platform repairs requiring depths exceeding 24 meters.

Another significant project is the construction of a new 336.5-meter-long dock adjacent to the Reina Sofía South Breakwater, creating 15,900 square meters of operational area. The budget for this project is estimated at $48 million.

The Port Authority also plans to extend the Juan Sebastián Elcano Dock by 466 meters. This expansion aims to support the construction, repair, maintenance, retrofitting, and development of onshore and offshore structures related to renewable energy, sustainable development, and decarbonization. Co-financed through the Port-Eolmar program, the project has a budget of $55 million and will create an adjacent operational platform of approximately 6 hectares.

To strengthen fuel supply services—one of the strategic activities of the Port of Las Palmas—the Port Authority will construct mooring pontoons capable of accommodating vessels ranging from 100 to 400 meters in length. This project, with an investment of $20 million, aims to enhance the port's maritime bunkering capacity.

At Puerto del Rosario on Fuerteventura, the commercial dock breakwater will be extended by 250 meters. This project, costing $49 million and also co-financed by Feder, will provide greater protection for the port's harbor basin, significantly improving the operational efficiency of the cruise terminal. A new ro-ro ramp will also be built, enabling scheduled ferries to operate from the new breakwater, with an investment of $3.4 million. The business plan also includes an investment of $2.3 million in Puerto del Rosario to prepare the necessary infrastructure for the launch of a commercial maritime route to Tarfaya.

Additionally, similar amounts ($2.3 million each) will be invested in Puerto del Rosario and Puerto de Arrecife on Lanzarote to install the necessary infrastructure for providing shore power connections to the docks serving inter-island ferry traffic.

On Lanzarote, the Port Authority will also improve the entrance area of the South Breakwater to enhance safety and operational efficiency. It has been confirmed that the current entrance presents operational difficulties, particularly when vehicles merge onto Avenida Olof Palme. An allocation of $500,000 has been made for these improvements.

Meanwhile, different options for expanding the cruise terminal at Puerto de Arrecife are being evaluated, and a Universal Accessibility Plan (Plan de Accesibilidad Universal) is being developed, aimed at improving access conditions to the port's public spaces and buildings.

At Puerto de Arinaga on Gran Canaria, the Port Authority will develop an operational platform of approximately 5 hectares adjacent to the Agüimes Dock (muelle de Agüimes). This new area will improve and expand operations for vessels transporting components for the installation of new wind turbines on the island. The allocated budget for this project is $56 million. Additionally, an extra $2.3 million will be invested in urban development for the expansion area of Puerto de Arinaga, creating ample storage and logistics space for the large components currently being unloaded at this port.
