en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 10, 2026, Companhia Baiana de Pesquisa Mineral (CBPM) signed an intent agreement with China's CNOOD Asia to jointly evaluate the feasibility of constructing a decorative stone processing industrial park in Bahia. The signing ceremony was held in Bahia, attended by CBPM board members and staff, CNOOD CEO Chi Yonghai, and José Acácio Ferreira, Director of the Bahia State Socioeconomic Research Institute (SEI).
Companhia Baiana de Pesquisa Mineral is a mining research institution under the Bahia state government, established in 1971, responsible for the exploration, development promotion, and geological research of the state's mineral resources. CNOOD Asia is an international engineering company headquartered in Shanghai, founded in 2008, dedicated to providing one-stop solutions for design, procurement, prefabrication, construction, financing, and project management in sectors such as oil and gas, water, mining, renewable energy, and infrastructure. The company operates across the Americas and other regions.

Under the agreement, the parties will conduct a project feasibility study, including determining the park's location, assessing required infrastructure, and studying the construction of a bonded port to enhance the competitiveness of Bahia's products in the international market. CNOOD Asia will be responsible for technical research, market analysis, and engineering design. CBPM will provide geological information on Bahia's decorative stone resource potential and related industry chain data.
Bahia is Brazil's primary decorative stone production base, with abundant and diverse granite reserves. CBPM President Henrique Carballal stated that the partnership with CNOOD reflects the company's commitment to adding value to the state's mineral resources through industrial projects, strengthening socioeconomic development, and enhancing Bahia's mining competitiveness in the global market. The study will be completed in the coming months, laying the foundation for the project's subsequent implementation phase.
This collaboration will drive the upgrade of Bahia's decorative stone industry from raw material exports to industrial processing, significantly improving the local stone industry chain and increasing product added value.
