en.Wedoany.com Reported - Seven CRRC Ziyang locomotives have been delivered to Canyon Resources for use on the mine-to-port transport line of the Minim Martap bauxite project in Cameroon.

These locomotives have arrived at Canyon's local wholly-owned subsidiary, Camalco Cameroon. Commissioning, testing, and operator training have commenced ahead of the official launch of rail transport.

The first batch of 60 wagons produced is expected to arrive in Cameroon in mid-August 2026. An additional 100 wagons are scheduled to arrive at the Port of Douala by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

The Phase 1 rail fleet will consist of seven locomotives and 160 wagons. According to Canyon's estimates, this fleet can achieve a transport capacity of approximately 35,000 wet metric tons per month.

Regarding this locomotive delivery, it follows Canyon's increase in its equity stake in Camrail, Cameroon's main railway operator, from 9.1% to 26.9%. This increased shareholding allows Canyon to participate more deeply in the bauxite transport and the PQ2 railway upgrade project related to the Minim Martap logistics chain.

Phase 2 of the project is larger in scale, encompassing railway infrastructure upgrades and the delivery of an additional 15 locomotives and 400 wagons. The advancement of this phase depends on the finalization of $160 million in additional funding; once secured, the railway's monthly capacity is expected to increase to approximately 105,000 wet metric tons by the beginning of the third quarter of 2027. If this funding is not secured, production at Minim Martap will continue at approximately 35,000 wet metric tons per month.

As planned, Canyon will ship the first bauxite from the Port of Douala in the fourth quarter of 2026.
