en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 13, 2026, Rompetrol Energy validated the island operation capability of its cogeneration power plant, meaning it can start and operate independently without being connected to the national power system. This validation was carried out through a series of drills with industry partners, with the most recent one conducted under the direct coordination of Transelectrica, together with partners including the national nuclear company Nuclearelectrica SA.

To test the synergy with the Gălbiori energy storage facility, the operator also conducted extensive island operation drills. These drills help comprehensively test related equipment, operational procedures, and communication processes.

The Petromidia Năvodari cogeneration power plant has an installed capacity of approximately 80 megawatt-hours (MWh) and can supply up to 180 tons of steam per hour, fully meeting the energy needs of the Petromidia refinery. The plant is integrated with the refinery and the national power system, allowing surplus electricity to be fed into the grid depending on the operating mode.

This cogeneration plant is the main electricity supplier for the refinery. In emergency situations, it helps reduce the need to draw power directly from the national grid, thereby avoiding regional energy shortages in the Dobrogea area and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to critical industrial consumers. Drills conducted in recent months have reaffirmed the plant's role in ensuring regional energy stability.
