en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish construction company Ferrovial, through its subsidiary Ferrovial Digital Infrastructure (FDI), has entered the digital infrastructure market, planning to develop a data center campus in the Alcobendas area of Madrid, with an estimated investment of approximately €1 billion ($1.1 billion). The project aims to strengthen the company's diversification into assets related to the digital economy.
According to a company announcement, the project will be developed in phases. The first phase, named MAD01, involves the construction of a data center with a total capacity of 60MW, of which 40MW is IT load. This phase is located on one of the four plots that make up the entire campus development, in the Valdelacasa area, with an investment of €153 million. The entire campus covers an area of approximately 32,000 square meters (344,445 square feet).
The project has been designated as a "special interest" project by the Community of Madrid and is being processed through the regional investment accelerator, which helps expedite development. The project has received approval from key industry sector reports and has obtained a permit to begin earthworks.
Ferrovial has previously developed data centers for Microsoft and Telefónica in Madrid. This entry into the development of data centers directly leased to customers follows ACS and Krambol, as well as numerous renewable energy companies across the country.
