en.Wedoany.com Reported - Structural demolition has commenced at Nashville International Airport's central terminal as part of the airport's Central Core Upgrade project, aimed at increasing terminal entry capacity and improving passenger flow.
This work began the week of July 13 as part of an 18-month renovation under the BNA New Horizons expansion plan. The Nashville Metropolitan Airport Authority stated that passengers may notice increased construction noise as crews demolish escalator and elevator shafts and gradually remove concrete, structural steel, and terrazzo flooring. Structural demolition is expected to continue through December 2026.
To minimize disruption to passengers, the noisiest construction activities are scheduled between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. from Sunday to Friday, when airport passenger traffic is lower. Soundproofing facilities have also been installed around the construction area to reduce noise levels.

The Central Core Upgrade project launched in June 2026 to address the growing number of passengers. The plan includes increasing the number of escalators from 6 to 16, elevators from 2 to 3, and upgrading elevator equipment to improve passenger circulation efficiency in the central core area.
The project budget is approximately $40 million and is part of BNA's $3 billion "New Horizons" airport development plan. The broader expansion also includes rebuilding Terminal A, upgrading the baggage handling system, improving terminal roadways, and constructing a new rental car facility, with the goal of increasing the airport's annual passenger capacity to 40 million within the next decade. The Central Core Upgrade project is scheduled for completion in December 2027.
