en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 12, the China Coal Yulin Coal Deep Processing Base Project achieved mechanical completion, fully transitioning into the trial operation and commissioning preparation phase. Located in the Yuheng Industrial Zone of Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, this is the first large-scale coal chemical project approved by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment after China proposed the "dual carbon" goals. It integrates the "coal–methanol–olefins–high-end polyolefins" industrial chain. Over 600 people, including leaders from the Yulin Municipal Government, China Coal Energy Group, China Coal Shaanxi Company, and General Manager Yang Xudong, attended the mechanical completion ceremony.

The project's feasibility study estimates a total investment of 23.888 billion yuan. It primarily involves constructing a production capacity of 2.2 million tons/year of methanol and 900,000 tons/year of polyolefins, along with optimizing and upgrading the existing Phase I project, and supporting the construction of a 250,000 tons/year LDPE/EVA chain extension project. The project adopts AP (GE) coal-water slurry semi-waste heat boiler gasification technology and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences' third-generation methanol-to-olefins DMTO-III technology, forming an integrated production system for methanol, ethylene, propylene, and high-end polyolefins. The polyolefin product mix includes 350,000 tons/year of polyethylene and 550,000 tons/year of polypropylene. The main units of the project include air separation, gasification, purification, sulfur recovery, methanol synthesis, methanol-to-olefins, olefin separation, polyethylene, polypropylene, and related utility and environmental protection facilities. The project also undertakes two national application demonstration tasks: a 3,000-ton-class gasification semi-waste heat boiler process and a 40 MW ultra-high-power motor.

Regarding the project construction timeline, in 2013, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the project to carry out preliminary work and included it in the national coal deep processing demonstration project plan. In June 2022, the project's environmental impact report was approved by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. In January 2023, the project participated in the centralized groundbreaking activities for key projects in Shaanxi Province and received approval from the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, entering the comprehensive preparation phase for construction. On June 18, 2024, the main units of the project officially commenced construction, with units such as air separation, gasification, methanol synthesis, MTO, olefin separation, and polyolefins fully entering the construction phase. In May 2026, progress was made in the trial operation of the large compressor set for the air separation unit; on June 23, the DMTO-III unit achieved mechanical completion and successfully ignited the furnace for the first time; on June 26, the methanol synthesis unit completed mechanical completion. On July 12, the project achieved overall mechanical completion, essentially concluding the engineering construction phase.
