en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK construction engineering firm Costain has secured a three-year extension to its managed service provider contract with United Utilities, extending the water sector partnership that began in 2019 to a full ten-year term.

Under the agreement, Costain will continue to deliver asset maintenance services for United Utilities' water, wastewater, and bioresources operations during the AMP8 investment period. The framework covers a significant volume of asset maintenance projects across the Northwest of England, as well as round-the-clock responsive maintenance services at United Utilities sites.
Costain's role includes engineering and construction delivery, asset optimization, project management, and procurement support, and it will continue to provide replacement, refurbishment, and upgrade services across United Utilities' operational assets. Since the framework was launched, Costain stated that its team of over 120 specialists and engineers has supported the delivery of more than 900 asset maintenance projects and approximately 9,000 responsive maintenance activities. The company also noted that these efforts have helped United Utilities complete over 160 key regulatory commitments ahead of schedule.
The maintenance contract comes as United Utilities advances its "Big North West upgrade" program, which includes £13.5 billion in investment between 2025 and 2030, along with further proposed investments to support regional growth. United Utilities' AMP8 plan involves significant expenditure on water and wastewater infrastructure, with a focus on resilience, environmental performance, and the ability to meet future demand. Costain is also part of United Utilities Enterprise, a separate AMP8 framework covering upgrades to water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and reservoirs.
Matt Bateman, Director of Costain's Water Division, stated that the company is a long-term, trusted partner for United Utilities, and this latest extension is a testament to its track record of predictable and consistent delivery. Bateman also noted that in Northwest England, Costain works closely with United Utilities and local supply chain partners to build critical resilience for the region's water and wastewater infrastructure. John Welch, Commercial Director at United Utilities, said the extension will support the delivery of its most ambitious program to date, enabling both parties to continue driving transformation rapidly across the region.
The contract extension reinforces the role of long-term delivery partnerships in the UK water industry as companies progress through AMP8, a five-year regulatory period expected to involve substantial investment in asset renewal, environmental performance, and reducing storm overflow discharges.
