en.Wedoany.com Reported - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), together with Manson Construction and its partners, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 8, 2026, in North Charleston, South Carolina, for the new Charleston Harbor facility. Members of Congress, NOAA leadership and officials, representatives from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), local government officials, project partners, and stakeholders involved in the facility's development attended the event.
Manson Construction delivered this design-build recapitalization project under a $59.8 million contract, replacing the aging Romeo Pier with a modern, resilient waterfront infrastructure. The project was completed on schedule and within budget, including the demolition of the existing pier and the construction of a new 62-foot by 360-foot floating dock, warehouse, state-of-the-art electrical and switchgear building, seawall, storm surge curb, utility upgrades, and other NOAA operational support facilities. The floating dock is one of the largest and most technologically advanced of its kind in the United States.
The facility will serve as the homeport for NOAA's research vessels RONALD H. BROWN and NANCY FOSTER, providing critical support for fisheries management, ocean and climate research, charting, weather monitoring, and other scientific missions across the Atlantic region. Designed to withstand storm surges, sea-level rise, and seismic events, the new infrastructure will enable NOAA to continue its research and operations for decades to come.
