en.Wedoany.com Reported - The European project INERH2 has held a meeting in Faro, Portugal, officially launching its activities, during which the work plan for the next 36 months was presented. The meeting was organized by the University of Algarve (UAlg) and the Algarve Regional Energy and Environment Agency (AREAL). This initiative has received nearly €1.3 million in funding from the Interreg POCTEP 2021-2027 program, coordinated by CTA, with participation from research institutions in Spain and Portugal, such as ITG, INTA, and the University of Seville. The project aims to improve electric charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure for transportation on the Iberian Peninsula.

At the launch event, the main work plan of the project includes establishing a shared research network between Spain and Portugal, focusing on the design, operation, and management of electric charging and green hydrogen refueling facilities.
Prior to the launch meeting, consortium members held a remote project assembly. The meeting in Faro, open to the public for the first time, gathered 40 participants to discuss solutions for alternative fuel infrastructure. The joint work facilitates the exchange of experiences among participating entities and advances technical knowledge.

The main panel of the meeting analyzed the needs of the energy transition in transportation, discussing opportunities for deploying electric charging and green hydrogen refueling infrastructure. Participants, including universities, public administrations, and research centers, exchanged views on transport decarbonization and the future of mobility on the Iberian Peninsula. During the forum, representatives of related initiatives such as AGERAR PLUS and AIHRE also shared their experiences, promoting cross-organizational exchange of results and knowledge.
Cooperation between organizations from both countries is one of the project's pillars. In addition to the coordinating entity CTA, the consortium includes ITG, INTA, and the University of Seville, along with Portuguese partners. The Faro meeting provided a space for researchers, businesses, and administrations to exchange ideas and establish new working relationships.
With a 36-month duration and EU funding from Interreg POCTEP, INERH2 aims to address the challenges of existing electric charging and green hydrogen refueling infrastructure through scientific cooperation and knowledge exchange between Spain and Portugal.
