en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that the Major General Armando Revoredo Iglesias Airport, located in the Cajamarca region, has been officially designated as an international airport. This decision aims to promote the decentralization of air transport in the country and recognizes Cajamarca's potential in connecting new destinations, attracting investment, and boosting tourism.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrella, stated at the ceremony that this measure is a recognition of Cajamarca's capabilities and helps strengthen its connections with national and international markets, thereby promoting local production, commerce, logistics, and tourism activities. The airport features a 2,500-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway, a taxiway, a commercial apron, and a terminal building, capable of accommodating short- and medium-range aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 series. The airport is also equipped with visual aids, air traffic services, instrument approach procedures, and fire and rescue services.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications clarified that the launch of international flights will be carried out gradually and must comply with current regulations in technical, operational, immigration, customs, health, and safety aspects. As part of this process, runway lights will continue to be installed to enable future night operations. Additionally, Sky Airline Peru plans to resume regular operations on the Lima–Cajamarca–Lima route on September 1, 2026, with seven weekly flights using Airbus A320neo aircraft, capable of carrying 186 passengers. The route is expected to transport approximately 113,500 passengers annually.
