Irving Oil to Launch 320,000 bpd Refinery Turnaround in September
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Irving Oil's 320,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick, will begin its fall turnaround project in September, expected to continue until mid-November.

The turnaround cycle is longer than usual this time. The refinery typically schedules a 30- to 35-day maintenance window, but the 2026 fall turnaround plans for approximately two months of work, with phased systematic maintenance of core processing units. The engineering team will focus on key infrastructure replacement, pipeline inspections, and preventive maintenance.
Irving Oil conducted a fall turnaround in 2025, investing nearly $40 million, involving equipment upgrades and inspections of pipelines and key units. Additionally, the company launched an upgrade project for the fluid catalytic cracking unit at the Saint John refinery in June 2025, with an investment of approximately $100 million, with construction progressing in phases through summer and fall.
As Canada's largest refinery, the fall turnaround at the Saint John refinery may impact fuel supply in the northeastern U.S. market. The phased reduction in the refinery's supply capacity could exacerbate regional refined product market tightness during the maintenance period.
