Île-de-France Mobilités Announces Nearly €4 Billion in Summer 2026 Construction Works
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Weidu News, Île-de-France Mobilités, RATP, and SNCF Réseau will launch a large-scale summer railway construction and modernization project across Paris and the Île-de-France region starting mid-July 2026. The total investment for 2026 is close to €4 billion, covering multiple lines including the metro, RER, Transilien, and tramways. The works aim to upgrade aging infrastructure and improve overall network operational efficiency and safety.
The RER B line is one of the most affected lines in this construction. To modernize the north-south railway artery of Paris, the RER B line will suspend operations between Gare du Nord and the southern suburbs from July 25 to August 16, 2026, lasting 23 days. During the same period, the western section of the RER C line has been closed since July 15, with train services between Paris Austerlitz and Versailles Château Rive Gauche interrupted until August 22, totaling 39 days. Additionally, the RER A line's Nation station will be out of service until August 30 due to platform waterproofing and reconfiguration works; the eastern section of the RER A line (Noisy-le-Grand – Mont d'Est to Vincennes) and parts of the P line (Tournan to Coulommiers) will also be interrupted from August 8 to 23.

On the metro lines, Line 4 will be interrupted between Les Halles and Montparnasse – Bienvenüe stations from July 20 to 24; Line 13's Châtillon-Montrouge station will be closed until the end of August. Furthermore, Lines 5, 8, and 12 will also undergo construction at different times during the summer.

SNCF Réseau will launch a large-scale track renewal project on the P line section between Coulommiers and Tournan from July 13 to August 23. This project is a key part of the 2026 network modernization investment. After the summer works conclude, some line upgrades will continue—the renovation of RER A line's Nation station is only the first phase of a comprehensive overhaul plan, with the entire project expected to last until 2030.

The Île-de-France region conducts large-scale railway construction every summer, taking advantage of the lower passenger traffic during the summer break to advance infrastructure upgrades. The total investment for 2026 is close to €4 billion, covering areas such as track replacement, signal system modernization, introduction of new trains, and station renovations. During the construction period, operators will minimize the impact on passengers by running replacement buses, adjusting timetables, and providing real-time travel information.
