en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Abia State Government on Sunday assured residents of the temporary nature of the flooding along the ongoing reconstruction of Owerrinta Road, stating that the issue would be resolved before the project's completion.

This follows a viral video showing floodwaters inundating a residential compound along the road.

Information Commissioner Okey Kanu, in a statement, explained that the flooding was caused by the area's natural topography and unusually heavy rainfall over the past two days. The ongoing reconstruction of the road had only temporarily exacerbated the pre-existing drainage problem.

Kanu stated that the project is still under construction, allowing the engineering department and contractors to assess drainage patterns and make necessary adjustments before completion.

He dismissed political interpretations of the incident, emphasizing that the government's priority lies in the welfare of residents and the provision of quality infrastructure.

Kanu noted that similar drainage challenges encountered during the reconstruction of the Onuimo–Umuahia Road had been successfully addressed, and assured residents that the same professional approach would be applied to the Owerrinta Road project.

The government called on affected residents to remain calm, pledging to work with the Ministry of Works and contractors to provide a permanent solution while safeguarding lives and property.
