Bouygues Telecom Launches Extra Bbox Emergency WiFi, Supporting 1.1 Gb/s Downloads

The product is introduced by Bouygues Telecom and is not a primary internet box but a complementary solution.

The main feature of the Extra Bbox is its broad compatibility. Regardless of whether the user's fixed network operator is Free, Orange, SFR, or Bouygues Telecom itself, the device can be used as an emergency connection. This solution can also create a second WiFi network in areas with poor residential signal coverage or maintain network connectivity while traveling or on vacation.

In terms of performance, the Extra Bbox supports download speeds of up to 1.1 Gb/s and upload speeds of up to 175 Mb/s, suitable for scenarios such as video conferencing, remote work, or file sharing. The device integrates WiFi 6 technology, allowing multiple devices to connect simultaneously. The plan includes 100 GB of monthly internet traffic in mainland France, typically sufficient to cover primary household needs during a fixed broadband outage.

The Extra Bbox only needs to be plugged into a power outlet to automatically connect to Bouygues Telecom's mobile network and generate a WiFi network, which can be accessed by smartphones, computers, smart TVs, or gaming consoles. The installation process is almost instantaneous and requires no wiring; users simply place the device in an area with good 5G coverage to start using it.
