en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, General Fusion, a nuclear fusion energy company headquartered in Canada, officially began trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange in the United States under the ticker symbol "GFUZ," becoming the world's first publicly listed pure nuclear fusion energy company. On its first trading day, General Fusion's stock closed at $11, up 21% from its initial public offering price, with a total market capitalization of approximately $521 million, reflecting a positive market response.

Public information shows that General Fusion was founded in 2002 and is one of the earliest established private nuclear fusion companies globally, having received substantial private capital support, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as an early investor. Unlike the mainstream tokamak and inertial confinement technology routes in the industry, the company adopts the Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) technology path, achieving fusion reactions by mechanically compressing plasma with a liquid lithium liner, focusing on an engineering-oriented, low-cost commercialization approach. Its core demonstration device, Lawson Machine 26 (LM26), was completed and put into operation in early 2025, making it the world's first magnetized target fusion device to reach a commercially relevant scale, with a device diameter at 50% of the commercial target size.

According to General Fusion's disclosures, the raised funds will primarily be used to advance the key technology validation of the Lawson project. The plan is to gradually heat the plasma to 1 kiloelectron volt (approximately 10 million degrees Celsius) by 2028, subsequently increasing it to 10 kiloelectron volts (approximately 100 million degrees Celsius), and ultimately verifying the Lawson criterion for achieving net energy gain in plasma. According to the long-term plan, General Fusion's first commercial fusion power substation is expected to be operational around 2035 at the earliest.

From an overall industry perspective, the global nuclear fusion sector is in a period of rapidly rising capital interest. According to the "2026 Global Fusion Industry Report" by the Fusion Industry Association, 56 private fusion companies worldwide raised an additional $4.48 billion in funding over the past year, bringing the industry's cumulative total financing to $14.24 billion, with commercialization expectations continuing to heat up.
